Plan
The task
I have been tasked creating on making a 3D bus stop shelter that fits the needs of the user and environmental conditions. Within this task I got to explore comfort, inclusive, safety and sustainability while exploring form, materials and functionality. This will be shown in my final design and how the model can help everyday use and to encourage the use of public transportation. This will be a bus stop design on behalf of MV Studio.
NDA
A NDA is a none disclose agreement which is a legally binding document when a company and client can’t say what they are working on as that would breach it. For this assignment there is no NDA.
Purpose/Client Information
Why is this project being developed?
The project is being developed because the current bus stop is ran down and is in need of a modernizing to fit the health and safety regulations of today. Overtime the elements have gotten to this bus stop and has slowly began to decay making it shut down permanently however, this project will show what it can be. In hopes that the tourists will be able to get transport due to being located outside a B&B. The bus stop is also from WW2 and has gone into a trust to reserve it.
Site Location
Work-Experience-Map
Dunchurch Rugby Warwickshire CV22 6NX will be the bus stop which I will be refurbishing due to it being shut down permanently and can be bought back to life. However, due to the location I am limited on what I can do as it is right next to a junction and that I do not want to obstruct the view of drivers for safety reasons.
I choose this site as it is very similar to what I wish to build and thought that it would be fun trying to revamp a older bus stop compeered to trying to create a fully original bus stop. It is also a bus stop which is permanently closed and would be good to redesign and imagine what it could have looked like if it was to of gotten a revamp.
I like the fact that their is a outside seating area for bright and sunny days as well as there is a red phone box right next to it. I also like the local notice board outside the bus stop allowing locals to advertise. I also like the fact it is hut like meaning there is shelter for people.
I don’t like that it is on a crossroads which could lead to dangerous hazers so looking for a place for the bus to go in. I also don’t like the mixture of materials used such as wood and stone brick this would also lower the chance of warmth and will deter people away from catching the bus in cold weather.
I plan on improving the elemental resistances so the bus stop doesn’t need much maintaining since the current bus stop has been harmed by the elements. I also plan on adding a layby for which bus can go into to make it more safer.
Does the client have any specific wishes with regard to design?
The client doesn’t have any personal design choices but within functionality they do. The functionality needs to make minimum environmental damage so things such as aluminium will be good for the bench as it is lightweight and highly corrosion-resistant metal so it would rust slower. It will also need to fit the needs of the disabled people for example those in wheel chairs so accessibility is important.
What attitude do they have towards architecture and design?

Who are the other participants of this project?
In order to resister and operating local bus services I would need to evolve the following parties:
Senior/Traffic Commissioner – They are regulators of the road transport industry and are responsible for issuing operator’s licences and maintaining the register of local bus services. They act independently to the government and other agencies. Their main role is to assure safe and reliable operators of goods and passenger vehicles are permitted to be licensed. The Senior Traffic Commissioner is appointed with legal powers to deploy traffic commissioners.
Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) – These are people that assure that operators of goods and passenger vehicles are within the legal registration and checks the roadworthiness. They also check in with the bus drivers making sure that they are fit enough to drive along the roads. They also get the local authorities to promote punctuality so the busses don’t run late. They also investigate complaints about the running of local services which may involve carrying out monitoring of local services.
Local Transport Authority – Local transport authorities work with operators to develop policies for the promotion and encouragement of safety of the public. They also assure the efferently and fits within the community choices. They also do the integrated transport when appropriate. They would also want to see a draft proposal of the bus stop so a Cladding plan would be relevant as well as information to go with it. The local transport authority may then consider how the local transport requirements in that area will be met and request further information from the operator if required. The Local Transport Authorities vary or cancel local bus services. But classed with traffic commissioner.
Role of the Department for Transport – The Secretary of State for Transport works with the government responsible for determining the legal requirements of operator licensing and local bus services, in doing so establishing the roles and responsibilities of the traffic commissioners and DVSA. Traffic commissioners are independent of Government.
Are there any particular requirements and restrictions?
There are a few requirements and restrictions. However, bus shelters do not require planning permission unless they feature an advertising panel but, due to me wanting to include a notice board that can advertise it falls into this category.
Sustainability & Energy Efficiency
Any specific considerations toward sustainability and energy efficiency?
I have consider using materials which don’t need to be heavily maintained this is good because then maintenance doesn’t have to come out and harm the environment.
What sort of materials would the client like to use?
The client would like the materials to fit within the local area and not to look too modern as they are worried that it would bring a decrease of property value down as well as the bus stop. However, they are open to new materials as long as it will fit with their requirements.
In the local area there is a lot of outside greenery with a outside bench to. This also marked as public area and therefore, can be used by anyone having a premade bench outside will cater for outside sitting. There is already plenty of grass nearby and old fashioned houses which will help with property value.
Accessibility considerations need to be made?
As of the current design it is flat allowing push chairs and wheel chairs to access the bus stop easily however, if they was to wait outside there will be issues with the space as it is directly on a road. To cater for this I have decided to move the bus stop further back allowing more foot room. We will also trim one meter of grass to the left allowing a little space between the bus stop and the bench.
